The bill includes provisions where tenants can request permission from their landlord to keep pets.
The changes were supposed to give greater security and stability to tenants. Unfortunately, Greycoat assures that it makes the lives of landlords more difficult as they must re-examine how they manage their properties.
Statista conducted a study in 2023 that learned how 57% of all United Kingdom households keep pets, Greycoat informs. Landlords will struggle with new challenges like building management, property maintenance and tenant relationships. When they surveyed landlords about the new Renters Reform Bill, 56% of landlords predicted the potential for negative consequences.
This, over this bill because of how it gives tenants a right to keep pets inside their properties. A further 56% of landlords surveyed said that this bill was positive from the tenant side of things, Greycoat assures. Only 16% viewed it as negative for tenants.
Many tenants didn’t feel concerned about this because when they moved, they didn’t need to keep a pet. While the bill could be viewed as a negative, it does look at the important role that pets play in the lives of people in the UK.
